SUMMARY:Civil Disagreements: Election Security
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a moderated Civil Disagreements program featuring informed perspectives on election security\, voting access\, public trust\, and the integrity of our elections! \nClick Here To RegisterFree and fair elections depend on both secure election systems and public confidence in their results. Yet Americans continue to disagree about the nature and extent of the threats facing our elections\, the effectiveness of existing safeguards\, and whether proposed reforms would strengthen election integrity or make it more difficult for eligible voters to participate. \nHow secure are elections in the United States today? Which risks deserve the greatest attention\, from voter fraud and foreign interference to cybersecurity threats\, misinformation\, and challenges facing election workers? Do measures such as voter identification requirements\, expanded mail-in voting\, improved auditing procedures\, and updated voting technology protect the democratic process\, undermine access\, or accomplish some combination of both? \n\nModerator:\nAlisa Kaplan\, Executive Director\, Reform for Illinois\nPanelists:\nNoah Praetz\, President\, Ready for Tuesday\nJune Brown\, Chicago Board of Elections\nAnthony Vega\, Lake County Clerk\nElizabeth Yang\, President\, WStrong LLC \n\nCivil Disagreements Debate Series is a series of moderated debates on current\, critical\, and often contentious civic questions sponsored by the Chicago Council of Lawyers\, the American Bar Association‘s Division for Public Education\, the American Constitution Society (Chicago and Austin\, TX chapters)\, the Federalist Society (Chicago chapter)\, Reform for Illinois\, Courts Matter Illinois\, and other organizations as noted. \nCLE Credits\nContinuing legal education (CLE) credits are available to Illinois lawyers for 30 days from the program date. SUMMARY:Northwestern University's Mock Trial
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to share the following volunteer opportunity from Northwestern University’s Mock Trial program. If you’re interested in supporting aspiring advocates and helping students develop their trial skills\, consider serving as a judge at this year’s Mock at the Rock invitational tournament. \nOn behalf of Northwestern Mock Trial\, we are excited to announce that our annual Mock Trial tournament is taking place on the weekend of November 14-15 at Northwestern’s Evanston campus. We are looking for individuals to serve as judges. We are reaching out to see if you will share this opportunity with the members of your organization. \nCollege Mock Trial is a fun and dynamic way for undergraduate students to develop skills in public speaking\, performance\, and trial advocacy. Students will perform as both attorneys and witnesses in this year’s criminal case. \nNo Mock Trial experience is necessary — we train all judges. We will also provide free breakfast and lunch to all judges during the tournament. Individuals can sign up to judge anything from one competitive round (~three hours) to the whole weekend (four competitive rounds across two days). \nWe would be deeply grateful for your time\, whether you judge one round or all four. If you’re interested in judging\, please sign up here. \nHere’s the complete schedule for the weekend: \n\nRound 1: Saturday\, November 14th at 8:00 AM\nRound 2: Saturday\, November 14th at 12:00 PM\nRound 3: Sunday\, November 15th at 8:00 AM\nRound 4: Sunday\, November 15th at 12:00 PM\n\nAgain\, if you’re interested\, please fill out this form! And please share this opportunity with others you think would be interested in judging!
