The tournament will take place over two days, January 31 to February 1, on UIC’s campus and will feature four competitive rounds. Judges may participate in any combination of rounds, offering flexibility to attend in the morning or afternoon on one or both days. Whether you are able to judge a single round or multiple rounds, your time and expertise are greatly appreciated.
For nearly 40 years, UIC’s Mock Trial program has competed under the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), a nonprofit organization that sponsors undergraduate trial advocacy competitions nationwide. Each competition consists of three-hour trials in which teams of 6 to 10 students assume the roles of attorneys and witnesses.
Performances are evaluated using a standardized rubric, and cases include comprehensive materials such as depositions, affidavits, expert reports, exhibits, statutes, and case law.
This tournament serves as a final competitive opportunity for teams before regional tournaments begin in February, ensuring a high level of preparation and strong advocacy throughout the weekend.
This year’s case centers on a murder allegation involving a reality television competition, where the defendant is accused of killing a fellow contestant in an act of revenge.
Please feel free to share this opportunity with colleagues who may be interested in supporting undergraduate advocacy and legal education.
