{"id":4861,"date":"2025-12-31T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chicagocouncil.org\/staging\/1601\/?p=4861"},"modified":"2026-02-25T00:15:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T06:15:06","slug":"chicago-council-of-lawyers-and-chicago-appleseed-announce-new-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chicagocouncil.org\/staging\/1601\/chicago-council-of-lawyers-and-chicago-appleseed-announce-new-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago Council of Lawyers and Chicago Appleseed Announce New Relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>[Chicago] The Chicago Council of Lawyers (the \u201cCouncil\u201d) and Chicago Appleseed for Fair Courts (\u201cChicago Appleseed\u201d) announce a significant change in their relationship, effective January 1, 2026.\u00a0 As of that date, The Council and Chicago Appleseed will each have its own executive directors and sphere of operations while continuing to cooperate on some joint projects.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As part of these changes, the Council will be making extensive changes in its social media accounts and website, as well as ramping up its focus on resisting attacks by the Trump Administration upon the rule of law and the continued existence of our democratic republic.\u00a0 Chicago Appleseed will continue to focus its mission on improving lives by improving the courts and identifying data-driven solutions to the systemic injustices of the legal system.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Chicago Council of Lawyers\u2014Chicago\u2019s first public interest bar association\u2014was founded in 1969 with the unique mission to support the advancement of the law, not the advancement of lawyers. The Council\u2019s work focuses on social justice and civil rights issues that are of primary concern to members of the legal profession but affect all people, such as the screening, selection, and election of judges, legal ethics, criminal justice, and legal services for all people. Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization using mixed-methods research approaches and community-driven advocacy to interrupt cycles of poverty, mass incarceration, and racial injustice inherent to the legal system. \u201cSince 1997, the relationship between the Chicago Council of Lawyers and Chicago Appleseed has ushered in transformative change in Cook County and beyond. This revamp of our historical relationship allows for each organization to grow individually while continuing to work together for necessary reform,\u201d said David Schrodt, president of the Board of Governors of the Chicago Council of Lawyers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cFor nearly 30 years, Chicago Appleseed and the Chicago Council of Lawyers have been a force for transformative change in Cook County and beyond.
